In his book, Everything I Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten, Robert Fulghum states, "Most of what I really need to know about how to live and what to do, and how to be, I learned in kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in the sandbox at nursery school. These are the things I learned: (a) Share everything, (b) Play fair. (c) Don't hit people, (e) Put things back where you found them, (d) Clean up your own mess, (e) don't take things that aren't yours, (f) Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody, (f) Wash your hands before you eat, (g) Flush, (h) Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you (i) Live a balanced life, (j) Learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some (k) Take a nap every afternoon. (*but...NOT when you're on the clock J). When you go out into the world, (l) watch for traffic, (m) hold hands and stick together, (n) be aware of wonder."
When we consider the amount of information we consume through various means: books, CD's, DVD's, trainings and seminars, all are beneficial ONLY if the information is applied. Whether or not they're effective depends entirely on the recipient and what they choose to do with that knowledge. Information without application is worthless.
Over the years, I've realized that my exercise DVD's are completely ineffective, when I watch from the couch while inhaling food! Regardless of how effective they have the potential of being, if I am not committed to the PARTICIPATION and APPLICATION, there's zero benefit.
Most of us have learned at least a few basic principles for being successful in the areas we work in. The key is we all need reminders as to why we're doing what we're doing and recommit to doing what we already know to be true.
Beyond knowing certain truths, we also need our batteries recharged on a regular basis for optimal performance. We all need words of encouragement, attitude adjustments and perspective-getters to help us stay on track (or get back there). Sometimes just getting a 25% boost in the area of motivation and inspiration empowers us in our commitment to the application of the 75% knowledge we already had, but simply needed a little nudge!
Now, I'll just nudge myself right off this chair and take that walk - happy application!
Abundant blessings,
Joan
